Each breath was cut by a shudder as he curled in on himself, trying to keep from being crushed by the weight of his despair. "Don't leave me!" He called, over and over as if it were a spell to summon Takeda back. "Don't leave me behind!" Cries and sobs wracked through his whole body, with no regard for how much his head was aching.

" Takedaaa!" he wailed into the darkness, begging for a sign. He wasn't just alone, he'd been abandoned. The loneliness that consumed him was too much to bear. "Takeda-san?!" The night replied with a resounding silence and Kazuaki tore the blindfold off in desperation.Īll that greeted him was the light of an unfamiliar street lamp and the chill of an empty town. He didn't want to go home! He didn't want to be left alone again! The sound of footsteps trailed away from him.Ī familiar panic started to well up. Kazuaki gave a meek nod, even though he didn't understand why they had to do it like this. Count to thirty and then take the blindfold off. "You're by the railway, follow it to the station. Strong hands on his upper arms held him steady as he got his bearings and Takeda's firm instructions rang next to his ear.

Just as Kazuaki reached for the blindfold a gentle push spun him around. They took this turn and that turn, over dirt and pavement at one point Kazuaki was convinced they just walked in a circle.Įventually they came to a stop and Takeda pried his hand away. Takeda was good about warning for changes in terrain and keeping Kazuaki from tripping over himself. Blind to the nature of his kidnapping, Kazuaki was led by the hand into the night. Having his own scarf wrapped tightly over his eyes had frightened him at first but he had been constantly reassured that he wasn't going to get killed - it was just a precaution. The cool night air was starting to permeate his threadbare jumper and the shivering caused him to grip on to Takeda's hand even harder.
